How to delete your data

You are in control of the data marketcity holds about you. This page explains how to delete it, what happens when you do, and how to remove the connection to your Google or Facebook account. Our full privacy policy explains what we collect and why.

Delete your account and all your data yourself

1. Sign in to marketcity.co.uk.
2. Open Account, then Data and privacy.
3. If you signed in with Google or Facebook, click Email me a confirmation code and enter the 6 digit code from the email. Otherwise enter your password.
4. Type DELETE, tick the confirmation box and click Delete my account and data.

The deletion happens straight away. We send a confirmation to the email address that was on the account. Before you delete, you may want to click Download my data on the same page to keep a copy.

If you cannot sign in

Email [email protected] from the email address on your account, with the subject "Delete my data", or open a support ticket. We will confirm it is you and delete the account within 30 days, usually much sooner. You can also ask for a copy of your data in the same way.

What is deleted

• Your profile: name, email address, password, date of birth, phone number, location, photo and business details.
• Your addresses, saved searches, watchlist, cart, notification devices, blocked members and sign in history.
• Your listings and their photos. Listings that were part of a completed sale are kept as an anonymous record without your contact details.
• Your job profile, CV, cover letters and job applications.
• Any store you opened is closed and its contact details removed.

What we have to keep

• Order records for completed sales are kept for 6 years, as tax and accounting law requires. They no longer carry your name, email address or phone number.
• Messages and feedback you sent to other members stay in their account, because they belong to that conversation too, but they now show as coming from "Deleted member".
• Forum posts stay visible under "Deleted member". Ask us if you want a specific post removed.
• Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis within 30 days.

Signed in with Facebook or Google?

Deleting your marketcity account (above) removes everything we received from Facebook or Google. You can also remove marketcity from your Facebook or Google account, which stops future sign ins:

• Facebook: open Settings and privacy, then Settings, then Apps and websites, find marketcity and click Remove.
• Google: open myaccount.google.com/permissions, choose marketcity and click Remove access.

Removing the app on Facebook or Google alone does not delete your marketcity account, because you may still want to sign in with your email address. To delete the account and data as well, use the steps at the top of this page or email us.
